Preschool Field Trip At Vegesai Farm

Updated: Dec 18, 2024

Our previous Unit of Inquiry was on plant life cycles and parts of a plant. Students have learned the different functions of each part and how each part looks like. As we progressed in our lessons, students would not believe that some of the food they eat are root crops. This experience inspired us to look for farms that will allow students to see and experience pulling root crops from the soil.

In one of our lessons, we talked about where our food comes from. Many said that the food we eat comes from supermarkets. After going deep into the topic, students learned that the food from the supermarkets came from farms. Again, the farm experience allowed us to talk to the farmers about their produce and its distribution to the stores.

We ended the unit on cycles and transitioned to the next: community helpers. The class started to talk about farmers to connect both units and to solidify their learning. The class learned that farmers not only take care of vegetables but also farm animals, thus making the experience at the farm more meaningful.

The Preschool class had a fun and relaxing time at the farm. They learned about farm life and interacted with the farm owners. We pulled some vegetables and root crops and fed the animals. We had a picnic on the farm where we were surrounded by rabbits and goats. After lunch, the students had a great experience riding a tractor.

Overall, the day was calm, relaxing, fun, and meaningful! The students said they had a great time.
