Our Nursery class recently took part in a joyful garden adventure, potato picking!
We first invited parents to join us for a harvest day, but nature had other plans. The potatoes weren’t quite ready yet, which led to some thoughtful classroom conversations. Together, the children talked about how we can tell when potatoes are ready and why plants sometimes need a little more time. Thank you so much to the parents who came along that day, we truly appreciated sharing the experience with you.
To make the visit extra special, the children enjoyed a pretend cookie shop. With little tickets in hand, they “bought” cookies, taking turns and proudly participating in imaginative play that brought plenty of smiles.
After our holiday break, the long-awaited moment finally arrived, the potatoes were ready! Each student had their own shovels and eagerly began digging. The excitement grew as they pushed, scooped, and explored the soil, allowing the children to build confidence and coordination while being engaged and curious throughout the activity.
Afterwards, each child chose a potato to take home. We loved seeing families share photos of the meals they made together, turning this garden experience into meaningful moments at home.
What a wonderful reminder that learning happens best through hands-on experiences, curiosity, and a little patience.
