Museum of Ethnology Field Trip: Exploring How Ancient Civilizations Shaped Our World

On November 28th, our grade three students enjoyed an exciting and meaningful visit to The Museum of Ethnology, where they explored how people in ancient times used boats to travel, trade, and connect with others. The exhibits helped students see how these early innovations continue to influence our lives today.

During the visit, students observed real artifacts that showed how ancient civilizations shared knowledge, culture, and technology across great distances. They were encouraged to ask questions, make connections, and think deeply about how the past continues to impact the present, an important part of our Unit of Inquiry, Where We Are in Place and Time. This directly supported our central idea: ancient civilizations impact our lives.

Throughout the day, students engaged in hands-on activities that blended history, science, art, and geography. They explored different cultures, examined how people lived long ago, and reflected on the ways human creativity and innovation have shaped the world we live in now.

It was a valuable learning experience that brought history to life and strengthened students’ understanding of the world around them.
