G2 Field Trip to Meiji Chocolate Factory

On January 23, 2025, Grade 2 went on a field trip to the Meiji Chocolate Factory! In our UoI theme, How We Organize Ourselves, we have been learning about needs and wants, and goods and services. This trip was a great opportunity for us to see goods and services in real-life. 

When we stepped off the bus, we already smelled chocolate in the air! We were led by a Meiji staff member, who gave us a tour of the factory. We began the tour by participating in Meiji’s great chocolate debate: Kinoko no Yama (きのこの山) vs. Takenoko no Sato (たけのこの里). Students voted for which chocolate snack they liked better. After, we were able to see kinoko no yama and takenoko no sato chocolates being made and packaged in the factory. Students witnessed different machines at work, the role factory workers played, and the final good being produced. At the end of the trip, the factory gave us treats to take home!
